10 Tips for a Successful Booze Free Month (And Why You’ll Probably Want to Keep Going)
So, you are thinking about pressing pause on the Pinot for the month? Brilliant move. Whether you are doing it to feel better, sleep better, have more energy, prove something to yourself or just finally see what the fuss is all about, I promise you, it is worth it.
Now, let’s be real. Saying goodbye to your evening glass of wine can feel a bit like breaking up with a very clingy ex. But just like that ex, it does not take long before you start to see that you are actually better off.
If you are joining us in the alcohol free club this July, here are 10 practical (and honest) tips to help you make the most of your month… and maybe even enjoy it.
1. Know Your Why – and Keep It Close
Write it down, stick it on your fridge, make it your phone wallpaper. Your "why" is your anchor. Want more energy? Clearer skin? A reset for your mental health? Less guilt in the mornings? Own it. On the wobbly days (and there may be a few), your "why" will pull you through.
2. Don’t Just Quit Drinking – Add Something In
You are not just removing alcohol, you are making space. For better sleep, long walks, hot tea in bed, meaningful conversations, silly dance sessions in the kitchen. Fill the gap with things that actually nourish you. (Tip: Saying yes to dessert helps too.)
3. Fake It – Like a Pro
Stock up on the good alcohol free options. The market has exploded, and there is genuinely something for everyone now. Kombucha, AF G&Ts, sparkling botanicals, even alcohol free bubbly (my favourite) that actually tastes like bubbly. Pour it into your favourite glass and no one will blink.
4. Have a Line Ready
When someone inevitably asks, “Why aren’t you drinking?”, have a line in your back pocket. Keep it light or honest, your choice. "I’m giving my liver a holiday" works a treat. So does, “Just seeing how amazing I can feel without it.”
5. Say Yes to the Plans – Just Not the Booze
You do not need to hibernate. Go to the party, the dinner, the long lunch and go in with a plan. Get your drink sorted early, have an exit strategy if needed and remind yourself that being the one who remembers the whole night is actually kind of brilliant.
6. Romanticise Your Evenings
If you are used to unwinding with a glass of wine, try replacing the ritual, not just the drink. Beautiful glass, fancy soda, candle lit, cosy socks, good playlist. You are still getting your “me time”, just without the 2am wake-up and next-day regret.
7. Track the Wins
Journal it, voice note it, tick it off a calendar. Watching your progress build is powerful. Notice how your skin glows, your eyes brighten, how your brain fog lifts. My biggest surprise? The peaceful mornings. No dread. Just... calm.
8. Connect with People Doing the Same
Find your people. Whether it is an online group, a friend doing it with you or a podcast that speaks your language, connection keeps you going. You are not alone in this, and honestly, sharing your wins (and your wobbles) makes the journey feel way less heavy.
9. Remind Yourself – It’s Not Forever
A month. That is it. You are not signing up for life, you are just giving yourself a chance to experience the other side. You might surprise yourself and love how it feels. Or not, but at least you will know. That alone is powerful.
10. Celebrate the Heck Out of Yourself
Seriously. This is no small thing. Choosing to do something different in a world where alcohol is everywhere takes guts. Treat yourself at the end of the month, massage, new book, spa day, shoes, whatever makes you smile. You earned it.
And just quietly, this month could be the beginning of something really beautiful.
You might realise how much more present you are with your kids, your partner or even just yourself. How your anxiety eases. How your face softens. How you finally have space to think clearly again. A month off might just show you a whole new version of yourself, and it is a version worth knowing.
So go on. Take the leap. Try something different. It is only a month… but it might just change everything.
