Why join the challenge?

Perhaps you're sick and tired of feeling sick and tired and would like to give yourself a break from booze for a while but have always found it really hard in the past with all good intentions slipping aside when 5 pm hits?

It could be that you need support to help build a toolkit of some other coping mechanisms to help when you feel stressed, tired or need to just 'take the edge off'.

Maybe you have tried to take a break from alcohol in the past but found it hard due to peer pressure, not having the accountability or not having the connection with others on the same path (because I know how lonely it is when it feels like everyone around you is still drinking).

Perhaps you plan to take a month off or a year off but want to do it with the help and support of a trained and accredited grey area drinking coach who will provide you with all the resources, support and connection to give you the best possible chance of success while being part of an intimate and supportive group of women on the same path.

Whatever it is, I’ve got you covered and I will provide you with an amazing support network, extensive resources and all the help to make going alcohol free fun and liberating!

“Dive in to Sarah Rusbatch's amazing and fun (yes, fun!) world of sobriety if you're in any way concerned about your drinking; if you're wondering if there are better ways to deal with stress, anxiety, and bad days, or if there are other ways to self-medicate and make yourself feel better. A glass of wine is also not necessarily what you need on a good day, either! Come and take some time to think and reflect on your personal relationship with alcohol in an incredibly supportive group who are all wondering the same thing as you: is my relationship with alcohol harming me and my family? There is so much we're not told about the damaging effects of alcohol and think about other ways to live in our Antipodean drinking cultures. I have been a fairly heavy drinker (personal assessment ;-) for over 40 years and Sarah's Challenge has me motivated to see the world as a much larger and more exciting place than the small world I was creating for myself!”

- Jennie, October Challenge participant

“For those who are thinking of taking a break from alcohol or giving it up entirely, I would highly recommend joining Sarah’s Sober October. The knowledge and support you will receive from Sarah is priceless and also the camaraderie between the group was wonderful. I had already been alcohol free for a month or so when I joined the July challenge and it was excellent to keep me on track. I learnt so much from Sarah the guest speakers and the other ladies. I am now 115 days AF and for me, there’s no going back. If you’re thinking about it, DO IT!!”

- Jodie, July Challenge participant

“After several years of questioning my relationship with alcohol, I came across Sarah Rusbatch’s Dry July Challenge, and took the leap. I learnt for the first time the concept of ‘Gray Area Drinking’. Through Sarah’s challenge I learnt to question ‘why’ I drank and how I could show up in life without it! I soon realised why the immediate off switch alcohol gave me was actually exacerbating my anxiety and dimming my light! As a result I have soothed my nervous system, I am valuing sleep, I have deep gratitude and have more meaningful connections with my loved ones. At 68 days AF I can’t believe the change in my life. Highly, highly recommend taking the leap too!”

- Donna, July Challenge participant

Victoria Vanstone

Victoria is the host of the fabulous podcast 'Sober Awkward' and the blog 'drunk mummy sober mummy'. Vic's story is one so many of us can relate to and I can't wait to share her with you. She is honest, open, warm and funny.

As she says in her own words:
"This isn’t about hitting rock bottom, I’m not typing from a gutter whilst slugging from a whisky bottle first thing in the morning. It’s not a tale of misery and childhood trauma that’s led to a life of addiction. It’s the story of a very normal girl with a very ordinary socially acceptable drinking habit. It’s a journey from a binge-drinking youth to a responsible - yet pissed up parent at long boozy play dates. It’s about understanding and changing habits."

I know that you will get so much out of this conversation as our message is so similar - you don't have to be an alcoholic to decide to stop drinking. You don't have to have a rock bottom to decide to change your relationship with alcohol.

I have followed Scott's journey for years and wow - what an incredible, inspirational and humble young man he is. What he has done for the LGBT alcohol free community has been incredible and I am so excited to speak to him and share his story with you all!

Amy Armstrong

Amy Armstrong from 'Dry But Wet' is the next guest expert speaker lined up to chat to us and this is another first for my community. Amy quit drinking in June 2020 and has since set up her page 'Dry But Wet' where she reviews alcohol free drinks, arranges tastings and alcohol free events in Melbourne and is an incredible human being.

In her own words:
" I’m Amy and I am a liquid pig. When I decided to get a divorce from alcohol in June 2020 and go alcohol-free, I thought I’d be losing a part of me. Turns out all I have done is gain. Gain clarity. Gain confidence. Gain a passion for discovering new and exciting alcohol-free drinks. My gain is your gain. I’m here to hold your hand and navigate you through the ever-expanding universe of non-alcoholic adult beverages now available."

Here’s what ladies from my previous challenges had to say!

“I happened upon Sarah at the end of June on a Podcast. I’ve questioned my love of drinking for some years, wasn’t at rock bottom by any means but the Podcast just got me at the right time. Headed over and checked out what Sarah was about and joined the July Challenge that was on offer thinking that 31 days off the grog would do me good, never imagining 69 days later my life has done a total 180 and I’m happily not drinking and also getting to know myself in a way I haven’t taken the time to do ever before. There have been highs and there have been lows in this last couple of months but Sarah’s knowledge and big-hearted support have been invaluable.

I dare you to try, you will be pleasantly surprised.”

- Gabby, July Challenge participant

“If you’re questioning the impact of alcohol on your life, this challenge will provide you with the support you need to take a break and stay the distance, whilst providing you with more learnings about alcohol than you could ever predict. You will get way more bang for your buck than you realise and at the end be surprised by the toolkit you have built to walk away with. Of course if you’re not ready to leave Sarah and her community at the end of the challenge, there are various options to remain connected and stay supported, but never any pressure to do so. It’s a non-judgemental environment with as many resources as you care to tap into and facilitated by Sarah who is as committed to the group and the cause, as anyone I have worked with.”

- Nicole, October Challenge participant

“I was a heavy home drinker for many years before and after I had my children, it was my way to hide my shyness and lonely and sad feelings or my way to cope with life when I felt anxious. I had told my doctors many times that I drank too much and that I also felt depressed. They just put me on antidepressants and told me to see a counselor, this didn't work, if anything it made me gain wait and feel even more depressed. I saw Sarah Rusbatch Sober October Challenge advertised and thought this maybe my way to help myself without pills and I would be doing it for me and only me! Well I have been sober now for 33 days, I have started to lose weight, my brain and mind feels clear and free and I actually don't care about alcohol anymore, I feel empowered to say no to a alcoholic drink and love watching others make the fool of themselves instead of me. I have gain respect for my body and have learnt how much alcohol can damage my body and how the alcohol industry have targeted us women to get us to continue drinking even when they know it is a major cause of cancer in us women. Today is the day that you need to make the change and go alcohol free, with support from Sarah Rusbatch and other women from around the world.”

- Leonie, October Challenge Participant

“Funnily enough I had resolved to do Sober October before I came across this on my FB feed. I have to say signing up to SR's Sober October was the best decision I've made in a long time. It has made my journey into the "land of sobriety" surprisingly easy. Not only that but it's helped reinforce the decision every step of the way. Collective support, the resources provided, Sarah's knowledge on the subject combined with access to amazing information - books/speakers/strategies have made the experience outstanding. Note here you're never too old. I have been struggling with menopause - weight creeping up, sore joints, lost purpose, sleep deprived, languishing in the land of the half brain dead. Happy to say I'm turning it around. I've got a new sense of purpose, better self esteem, much more rested and getting things done. Better still, seeing life in full technicolor once again and just loving the fact this is my new normal!”

- Jo, October Challenge participant

“The unwavering support, camaraderie, understanding, kindness, care, love, and complete absence of judgement that I experienced during the July challenge was truly life changing. The fight continues but now I know it's never alone. On top of that, the resources and shared experiences, Sarah's constant commitment to be there for us and bring us on an actual journey throughout the month was worth every penny. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

- Tania, July Challenge participant

“2 young kids and hitting perimenopause in my early 40’s left me feeling overwhelmed and not knowing where to start. I started with improving diet and exercise and going on HRT but the one thing I sadly noticed was alcohol was getting in the way. Not to mention how horrendous it was now suddenly making me feel the next day. I came across Sarah through her well-being collective on Facebook and then jumped on the July challenge and 72 days later I don’t even miss it. The whole program has been a game changer for me. The reason why is the support of the amazing group of women, the zoom talks with all the wonderful guests and emails and podcasts. It made something I always thought not possible- possible!! I am now working with Zoe Morosini and it feels like this is the missing link in my puzzle. Thankyou Sarah. It wouldn’t have been possible without you and what you do. I’m on a journey to good health and now feel empowered and not overwhelmed.”
